DOT 407 Chemical Tanker Trailers

Titan Equipment Leasing provides DOT 407 chemical tanker trailers for lease across the United States and Canada, supporting chemical manufacturers, distributors, and specialty haulers who require equipment built to handle corrosive, reactive, and high-purity liquids. Our MC 307/DOT 407 specification trailers feature stainless steel and aluminum construction with a round cross-section barrel design that provides the structural integrity required for higher-pressure chemical service.

The DOT 407 fleet includes trailers ranging from 4,000 to 7,000 gallons, available in 304 and 316 stainless steel grades with insulated and non-insulated configurations. These trailers are engineered for dedicated chemical transport where product purity, material compatibility, and regulatory compliance are non-negotiable. Titan maintains cleaning and decontamination standards that support both chemical and food-grade service requirements.

Specifications & Configurations

DOT 407 trailers (formerly MC 307) are built to a higher design pressure than DOT 406 equipment, with a minimum shell thickness and round cross-section that accommodates the internal pressures generated by chemical products during transport and temperature changes. The round barrel shape distributes stress evenly, which is why DOT 407 is the required specification for many industrial chemicals that cannot be legally transported in DOT 406 equipment.

Barrel material selection is critical in chemical service. Titan’s DOT 407 fleet includes both 304 and 316 stainless steel options. Type 304 stainless provides excellent general-purpose corrosion resistance and is suitable for a wide range of chemicals, food-grade liquids, and pharmaceutical products. Type 316 stainless contains molybdenum for superior resistance to chloride attack and pitting corrosion, making it the preferred choice for hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and other aggressive chemicals. For products that require additional protection, lined and coated barrel options are available, including rubber linings, epoxy coatings, and fluoropolymer barriers.

Insulated configurations maintain product temperature during transit, which is essential for chemicals that must stay within a specific temperature range to remain stable or meet delivery specifications. Non-insulated trailers are used where temperature control is not required and lower tare weight is preferred. Single-compartment design is standard for DOT 407 chemical service, reducing the risk of cross-contamination between incompatible products.

  • 4,000 to 7,000 gallon capacity

  • 304 and 316 stainless steel barrel construction

  • Insulated and non-insulated configurations

  • Lined and coated barrel options for chemical compatibility

  • Top and bottom discharge capability

Products Carried

DOT 407 trailers transport a broad range of liquid chemicals, from common industrial commodities to specialty and high-purity products. Chemical compatibility between the product and the barrel material, gaskets, valves, and any linings must be verified before loading. Titan works with customers to match trailer specifications to the specific chemicals being hauled, and can provide dedicated equipment for products that require exclusive-use trailers to prevent trace contamination.

Many DOT 407 operations involve dedicated service, where a trailer is assigned to a single product or product family for its entire lease term. This is standard practice for food-grade transport, pharmaceutical liquids, and high-purity chemicals where even microscopic residue from a previous load is unacceptable. Titan supports both dedicated and general chemical service depending on your operational requirements.

  • Industrial chemicals and solvents

  • Acids (hydrochloric, sulfuric, phosphoric)

  • Caustics and sodium hydroxide

  • Food-grade and pharmaceutical liquids

  • Specialty and high-purity chemicals

Compliance & Safety

DOT 407 trailers are subject to the same FMCSA and PHMSA inspection framework as other cargo tank specifications under 49 CFR Parts 178 and 180, but chemical service introduces additional compliance considerations. Chemical compatibility must be documented for every product transported, and cleaning and decontamination protocols between loads must meet both regulatory requirements and shipper specifications. Titan maintains detailed records of previous products carried, cleaning procedures performed, and inspection results for every DOT 407 trailer in the fleet.

HM-183 testing requirements for DOT 407 trailers include annual external visual inspections, leak tests, and lining inspections where applicable, plus the five-year hydrostatic pressure test. Because DOT 407 trailers operate at higher design pressures than DOT 406 equipment, the pressure test thresholds are correspondingly higher. Titan handles the full inspection and testing cycle for leased trailers, providing current documentation that supports shipper qualification audits, insurance reviews, and roadside compliance.

Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS) documentation support is available for all leased DOT 407 equipment. Titan can assist with product compatibility verification and provide equipment specification details needed for your safety and compliance programs.

  • DOT 407/MC 307 specification compliant

  • Chemical compatibility verification for every product

  • Cleaning and decontamination protocols between loads

  • HM-183 inspection and testing on schedule

  • Material safety documentation support
